Body of unidentified person retrieved from Cheptingting quarry dam

Shock has gripped Cheptingting village in Kaptoboiti Location, Waldai Ward, Kericho County, after the body of an unidentified person was retrieved from Cheptingting quarry dam on Tuesday afternoon.

Kaptoboiti Location Chief Ben Leitich said the body was first spotted floating in the quarry dam by car wash workers, who alerted the authorities.

The recovery operation was aided by 31-year-old Laban Kiplangat from Kapchereren village, a local resident known for his diving skills. Kiplangat was assisted by Sharon Cheptoo in retrieving the body from the water.

Kericho County disaster management team, led by Jack Mutai, called on residents to work closely with authorities in responding to disasters and other emergencies within the community.

The body of the unidentified adult was taken to Kericho County Referral Hospital mortuary as police launched investigations to establish the person’s identity and circumstances surrounding the death.
