Rogue Police Officers Will Be Held to Account, Ruto Says
By Bernard Koech,
President William Ruto has insisted that rogue police officers will face the full force of the law.
According to the Head of State, his administration will protect Kenyans from officers who don’t obey the law and laid down procedures. “We want a nation that is based on the rule of law,” he assured the nation.
He was speaking during the 20th anniversary of the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA) held at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County, on Friday.

Other leaders who attended the event include Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Executive Secretary of RECSA Jean Pierre, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Kajiado county Governor Joseph ole Lenku among other officials.
The Interior CS also said stern action was going to be taken against police officers who don’t abide by the law.
However, he also urged Kenyans to respect police authority so that acts of lawlessness can be tackled seamlessly.
He said the mistakes of a few police officers should not be used to condemn all officers, including those who go to great lengths and make sacrifices to serve the country.
President Ruto presided over the destruction of more than 6,000 illicit and obsolete small arms and light weapons recovered between 2022 and 2025.

He said the exercise reaffirms Kenya’s and its neighbours’ commitment to disarming those who threaten peace and to strengthening the safety and security of every citizen.
“The destruction of these firearms is not merely a symbolic act; it is a tangible declaration that we reject the tools of harm and embrace the values of peace, order, and justice,” he said.
He noted that illicit firearms enable lawlessness, violence, and other acts which undermine the rule of law.
