A 23-year-old graduate, Oscar Kiprotich Kitur, from Tenwek Hospital College of Health Sciences, has encouraged young people to consider pursuing courses in the medical field.
Kitur, who recently graduated with a diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, said many youths shy away from medical courses due to the perception that they are too difficult.
“We have to break this notion that the medical field is hard. In reality, it is an interesting and fulfilling profession,” Kitur said.
Speaking during his graduation, Kitur noted that his passion for helping others motivated him to study medicine.
“Interacting with people makes me happy. Being a doctor gives me a chance to serve and make a positive impact on people’s lives,” he added.
He also called on leaders to sensitize the public on the importance of taking up medical-related courses to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country.
Kitur further urged young people who did not qualify for university admission to take advantage of government initiatives such as Polytechnics and Technical and Vocational Training Institutions (TVETs), which provide alternative pathways to higher learning.
“The government has established many learning institutions to accommodate all youths. Let us utilize these opportunities to advance our education,” he said.
