Safaricom to Power 2026 WRC Safari Rally with 5G, IoT Connectivity

Safaricom will provide advanced connectivity and technology solutions for the 2026 WRC Safari Rally after being named the event’s official technology and connectivity partner.
The telecommunications company said the investment will enhance network coverage, support global media operations and improve emergency response systems during the internationally recognised motorsport event.

To strengthen connectivity across rally zones, Safaricom will deploy multiple Connectivity on Wheels (COWs) units to boost network coverage and internet capacity in key locations. The company will also optimise its 5G network to support high data demands, including global livestreaming and digital content distribution.
The TechCo will establish fully equipped media centres with high-speed 5G Wi-Fi to support local and international journalists covering the rally. Select media practitioners will receive bulk mobile data packages to enable reporting from remote rally stages.
“The 2026 edition of the WRC Safari Rally Kenya is expected to draw thousands of local and international fans to Naivasha and surrounding counties, with millions more following the action worldwide. Delivering seamless connectivity across rugged terrain remains critical to ensuring real-time broadcasting, safety coordination, and digital fan engagement,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO.
Beyond connectivity, the company will deploy Internet of Things (IoT) telematics solutions in the rally’s safety caravan fleet, including ambulances and rapid response units. The smart monitoring systems will send real-time data and automated alerts to command centres to improve emergency response along the rally routes.
Safaricom will also introduce rally-themed data bundles to allow fans across the country to livestream, track and engage with the event on their mobile phones.
The Safari Rally remains one of Africa’s most prominent sporting events and a key fixture in the global motorsport calendar.
