First Lady Rachel Ruto has urged Kenyans to embrace cycling, saying the sport carries major health, economic, and environmental advantages.
Speaking during the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy Cycling Race in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Mrs. Ruto said cycling culture is growing globally and Kenya should not be left behind.
She noted that cycling is a zero emission form of transport, making it an easy and affordable way to promote a cleaner environment.

Mrs. Ruto also praised the organisers for encouraging participation across all age groups from children to elderly riders saying such inclusivity strengthens community bonds.
“Big dreams start small, and sometimes you only see them clearly once you succeed,” she said.
The First Lady called on county governments and private investors to put more resources into cycling infrastructure, arguing that better tracks and safe riding spaces would attract spectators, boost local tourism, and unlock new opportunities for young athletes.
She highlighted that President William Ruto continues to support youth empowerment, noting that sports remain a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
“When young people are supported, mentored, and given opportunities to participate in sports, they grow into confident, disciplined, and purpose driven leaders,” Mrs. Ruto added.
The event drew high-profile athletes, among them Eliud Kipchoge and Tegla Loroupe, whose presence she said motivates upcoming cyclists and reinforces Eldoret’s reputation as a global athletics hub.

Mrs. Ruto expressed her delight at attending the event, saying cycling not only builds endurance and discipline but also unites communities through shared passion and purpose.
She encouraged organisers to consider making the Eldoret cycling race an annual event, noting that Uasin Gishu widely known as the “home of champions” continues to produce world-class talent and remains a natural host for major sporting activities.
