Promotion test for senior police officers
By Samson Kurgat
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) is conducting a suitability assessment for 132 police officers who have completed their promotional training courses. These officers, currently holding the rank of Chief Inspector, are undergoing evaluations to determine their readiness for promotion to Assistant Superintendent of Police. The assessment process is part of a broader effort to enhance professionalism and leadership within the National Police Service.
According to the commissioner Edwin Cheluget currently acting as Chairman, the suitability test is designed to evaluate various competencies, including governance, financial management, communication skills, ethics, leadership, and general police work. Additionally, academic qualifications and disciplinary records are considered to ensure a comprehensive assessment.
It’s important to note that completion of the promotional training does not automatically guarantee promotion; officers must demonstrate competence and readiness to assume higher responsibilities.
This rigorous evaluation process aims to ensure that promotions are based on merit and the officers’ ability to effectively serve in leadership roles within the police service.
