Narok Nurses Threaten to Join Nationwide Strike Over CBA, UHC Staffing

By Nicholas Rono

The Deputy Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) in Narok County, Philip Tonui, has warned that local nurses will join a nationwide strike if the government fails to address key issues raised by the union, including the employment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff and implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Speaking to Kass Digital, Tonui affirmed that nurses in Narok are prepared to suspend all services in line with the union’s directive if the government does not act within the 26-day ultimatum issued by KNUN’s national office.

“We will not hesitate to down our tools if these concerns are ignored,” Tonui said, urging the Narok County government to move swiftly to avoid a healthcare crisis.

KNUN is calling on the government to fulfill its commitments under the CBA, particularly the hiring of UHC staff, promotion of nurses, and improved working conditions for all healthcare workers.
