Uasin Gishu School Driver Accused of Defiling Three-Year-Old Remanded for Seven Days

A school driver accused of defiling a three-year-old girl in Uasin Gishu County has been remanded in police custody for seven more days to allow further investigations, and a court in Eldoret ruled on Tuesday.
Senior Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba ordered that Bernard Kipkorir Mutai, 31, be held at Naiberi Police Station until May 21, when the case will be mentioned in court.
Mutai is alleged to have defiled the playgroup pupil on May 9 while dropping her home from Sesiet Academy Katuyo in Ainabkoi sub-county.
The court rejected a police request to detain the suspect for 14 days, noting that investigators did not need that much time to conclude their probe.
Human rights activist Kimutai Kirui and Uasin Gishu County Nominated MCA Regina Chumba urged authorities to expedite investigations and expressed concern over rising cases of defilement involving minors in the region.
