Kass Media Group Visits Ailing Kalenjin Music Legend Tumbalal Arap Sang

Kass Media Group paid a heartfelt visit to legendary Kalenjin musician Henry Sang, famously known as Tumbalal Arap Sang.

A gifted songwriter and storyteller, Tumbalal is celebrated for his unique ability to transform vivid scenes into melodious tunes that have stood the test of time.

The Kass team was welcomed with jubilant song and dance at Tumbalal’s Chebitoik home in Kerenget, Nakuru County. The visit comes as well-wishers prepare for a major fundraiser on Saturday, March 21, 2025, to support the ailing icon, who has been unwell for the past decade.

Tumbalal’s wife, Grace, expressed her joy and gratitude for the visit.

“I am very grateful. This is such an important day for us. Thank you, Kass Media Group, for visiting Tumbalal. Kass has been with us through thick and thin,” she said, beaming.

One of Tumbalal’s childhood friends, Isaiah Arap Koech, took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about their days as young shepherds in 1946.

“I remember when we used to herd goats together. We fondly called each other *weri*—a term we used for our age-mates. Later, in 1956, when Tumbalal’s family moved to Malogit and I relocated to Olenguruone, we were still in school, writing on slates. I don’t think today’s kids even know what those are!” Arap Koech recalled with a chuckle.

Arap Koech also marveled at Tumbalal’s musical prowess.

“He was incredibly talented. I remember when he composed *Taplule ak Kandagor*. Back then, he played the *Chepkungo* before mastering the guitar,” he said with admiration.

Tumbalal’s son Dennis, along with neighbors and friends, praised the legend’s enduring legacy, noting how his music continues to unite people and communities across generations.

Leading the Kass Media delegation was Josphat Kebut, who, on behalf of the station, presented Tumbalal with Ksh 40,000 in cash and Ksh 10,000 in kind. Kebut also conveyed a message from Kass Media Group CEO Dr. Julius Lamaon.

“The entire team at Kass Media Group sends you our heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery. Your music has been a timeless gift, inspiring generations with its soul, rhythm, and passion. Your melodies have carried messages of hope, love, and resilience to every corner of our community,” the message read.

The visit was also graced by Kass FM personalities, including *Heshimu Ukuta* host Stone Koita Nesobe, Caro Jesang, Trizzer Cherorot, Stanley Bore, and Sylvester Rono, all of whom spoke fondly of Tumbalal’s contributions to Kalenjin music and wished him a speedy recovery.

“Nothing matches his music,” the staff stated,

“We are grateful to be here, sharing memories and creating more because of the legacy he built. Quick recovery, legend!”

As Tumbalal, the beloved Kalenjin rhumba maestro, prepares to host well-wishers for the upcoming fundraiser at his Kerenget home, the community stands united, ready to support the man whose timeless lyrics have brought them joy, unity, and pride.

Indeed, his music lives on, and so does his impact.
