Farmers Urged to Vaccinate Livestock to Boost Exports
By Isaac Kogei
Farmers have been urged to vaccinate their livestock—especially cattle, goats, and sheep—to enhance animal health and unlock access to international markets.
Speaking during a public participation forum in Eldoret on the draft Public Finance Management (Veterinary Services Development Fund) Regulations 2024, Kumbi William from the Ministry of Agriculture emphasized the importance of disease control in meeting global standards.

“By strengthening animal health, we aim to secure access to international markets, particularly in Europe and other Western countries. This will boost exports of high-quality livestock products,” said Kumbi.
Dr. David Kios, a veterinary surgeon, echoed the remarks, stressing the role of animal health in productivity and trade.
“Animal health is a top priority at every stage of production. That’s why the government is keen on ensuring all livestock are vaccinated to eliminate diseases and attract international buyers,” Dr. Kios said.
