Day 2 of Search and Rescue in Marakwet East Landslide Tragedy
By Shadrack Mutai | Nairobi, Kenya,
The Government has intensified search and rescue efforts in Marakwet East, where a deadly landslide claimed several lives and displaced families earlier this week.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen led day two of the rescue operations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to stand with the affected families.
Murkomen urged members of the public and organisations willing to help to channel their support through the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, which is developing a framework to coordinate contributions.

He also commended the multi-agency collaboration that has seen the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, National Disaster Operations Centre, Kenya Red Cross, and other non-state actors work tirelessly on the ground.
The CS was accompanied by Governors Stephen Sang (Nandi) and Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), CS for Public Service Hon. Geoffrey Ruku, PSs Chris Kiptoo (National Treasury) and Ismail Maalim (Special Programmes), as well as Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura, among other senior government officials.

As the rescue continues, leaders have called for unity, compassion, and resilience as the region comes to terms with the devastation and rebuilds hope amid the tragedy.
