Bloodshed in Angata Barikoi, Kilgoris: Hunt for Killers of Municipality Board Member Intensifies
By Albert Tonui
Calls for justice have intensified following the brutal killing of Charles Langat, a recently appointed board member of Kilgoris Municipality. Langat, who hailed from Keturo village in Angata Barikoi, was ambushed by livestock rustlers five days ago while driving his animals home. The attackers sprayed him with 11 bullets before making off with 18 cattle, 32 sheep, and 2 goats.
Kilgoris Municipality Board Chairman, Michael Ole Maito, has urged the government to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice. Speaking passionately about the tragedy, Ole Maito referenced the swift action taken by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the case of Kasipul MP Charles Were, calling for similar urgency.
“The DCI has proven its capability before. We want to see the same level of commitment in bringing Langat’s killers to book. Justice must be served,” Ole Maito stated.
Narok County Roads Chief Officer Weldon Rop echoed the chairman’s sentiments, highlighting the devastating impact of Langat’s death on his family. “Langat was the sole breadwinner for his family and his extended relatives. His death has left a gap that cannot easily be filled,” Rop lamented.
The killing has sparked outrage in the community, with residents demanding heightened security measures and swift justice for Langat’s family. Local leaders are now pushing for stronger crackdowns on livestock rustlers and better protection for vulnerable communities living along volatile borders.
As the calls for justice grow louder, all eyes are on the government to respond with urgency and bring peace back to Angata Barikoi.
