Baringo County joined ten Counties in NEPAD validation for the second CPRM African Summit peer review.

A delegation from the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, (NEPAD), County Peer Review Mechanism (CPRM) secretariat, led by Prof. Olive Mugenda, is currently in Baringo County to conduct a county peer review and assess the progress made by Counties government. This phase is vital for ensuring the accuracy and credibility of county-level data on governance and development.

The team is in the process of validating the County Peer Review Mechanism (CPRM) report, with initial findings indicating Baringo County is among others, Nakuru, Embu, Muranga, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, West Pokot, Laikipia and Taita Taveta and Nyandarua on peer review under Secretariat accessing and review on their development agenda to enjoined them in NEPAD/CPRM self-assessment to enable them meet step necessary to join other African Countries in the upcoming Second CPRM summit.
Prof. Mugenda acknowledged the notable strides made in key sectors such as infrastructure and healthcare, drawing comparisons between the county’s current progress and the state of affairs at the start of devolution in 2012 under 2010 Constitution.
Pro Mugenda stressed that NEPAD’s role is not to oversee but to assist county governments in reaching their objectives. The team is working to improve communication between the governor and the citizens, ensuring that public feedback is properly integrated into the development process.

“We are here to validate the report and ensure that citizens’ voices are heard and addressed, this is a voluntary initiative, and we thank Governor Cheboi for his openness,” said Prof. Mugenda.
Governor Cheboi expressed confidence in the county’s ongoing development, emphasizing that progress should be measured by comparing the current state with Baringo’s condition at the beginning of devolution.
