Angata Primary’s Crumbling Structures Spark Outcry from Parents.

By Albert Tonui

Parents at Angata Comprehensive School in Narok County are raising the alarm over the deteriorating state of the school’s infrastructure, accusing leaders of neglecting one of the region’s oldest and most iconic institutions.

Led by the Board of Management Chair Cornelius Simotwet and parent Joel Bett, the concerned parents expressed frustration that despite the school’s historic significance and its role as a political meeting ground for top national and county leaders—including the President, governors, and Cabinet Secretaries—no substantial support has been offered to upgrade its facilities.

“This school, founded in the 1960s, has hosted countless high-profile meetings, yet we continue to suffer in silence,” said Simotwet.

“The teachers’ quarters are in deplorable condition, morale is low, and our classrooms are overcrowded and outdated.”

The parents are now appealing to county and national leaders—specifically Governor Patrick Ntutu, MP Sunkuli, and the area MCA—to urgently prioritize the school’s needs.

Their plea includes calls for modern classrooms, functional boarding facilities, and a school bus.

“We started a boarding program a few years ago, but it collapsed due to lack of support,” said Bet. “We still have dormitories for both boys and girls, but they are unusable without funding.
Meanwhile, nearby schools that were established more recently already have school buses. Why not us?”

The community sees Angata Comprehensive not just as an educational institution, but as a symbol of the ward’s identity.

They argue that investing in the school would uplift the entire Angata Barikoi Ward and restore pride among residents.

As parents continue to wait for action, they remain hopeful that leaders will finally match their frequent visits with tangible improvements to a school that has long stood as a pillar in the community.
