Chaos erupted at Kaptagat Police Station in Chepkorio Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet, on Tuesday morning after residents stormed the station upon discovering a missing cow being slaughtered.

The shocking incident involved two police officers allegedly caught in the act of slaughtering the cow, while two others reportedly escaped. Area MCA John Kimeli confirmed the arrests and lauded the swift action by the OCPD and OCS.

“I thank the OCPD and OCS for ensuring that the culprits were arrested. We are now waiting for justice for the affected farmers,” said Kimeli.

The owner of the slaughtered cow, Josephine, recounted her ordeal, stating that the animal had failed to return home the previous evening, prompting a search with the help of locals.

Their efforts led them to the police station, where they discovered hide, skin and the internal organs of what they suspected to be the missing cow.

“I was called and told that my missing cow had been found at the police station, only to arrive and see it had been slaughtered,” Josephine said in disbelief.

Another resident, Moses Arap Wanyu, voiced the community’s frustration, noting a rise in livestock theft in the area.

“We’ve been dealing with cases of disappearing animals for some time. Last night, we got information about cows being slaughtered at the station, and we rushed there. We are struggling to survive, yet someone is stealing and slaughtering our cows,” he lamented.

Police reports confirmed that the two arrested officers are in custody as investigations continue.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who are now demanding accountability and justice from the law enforcers.
