Safaricom Supports Launch of Kenyan-Canadian Film Kipkemboi in a Bid to Encourage Local Storytelling

Safaricom PLC has announced its sponsorship of the launch of Kipkemboi, a Kenyan-Canadian film that promotes local storytelling and local talent, as part of commitment to the creative economy.
The film, which was shot in Kenya and Canada, recounts the uplifting tale of Kipkemboi, a talented young Kenyan from a small village who creates a powerful algorithm that catapults him into international fame and the sights of influential powers

“This is more than a film premiere, it is a celebration of positive and authentic Kenyan stories, talent, and the future of local entertainment.” said Mbugua Njihia, Director at Symbiotic Media at an exclusive red-carpet premier that brought together cast and crew actors, creative industry players, and technology partners for the delivery and consumption of affordable content.
Safaricom has made the film accessible to a large population locally. Customers can view the film for KES 100 for a 30-day pass or KES 150 bundled with 1.5GB of data on Pasha. The pass can be acquired via USSD code *544*46#.
Kipkemboi is directed by award-winning Nigerian director Charles Uwagbai and produced by Canada’s Leonard Farlinger and Jennifer Jonas, and Kenya’s Appie Matere. It features a multicultural cast that includes David Cubitt, Kevin Hanchard, Vinessa Antoine, Abel Mutua, Chichi Seii, and Thamela Mpumlwana.
