Plans to Establish Kiplokyi University College Satellite Campus

Former Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui has spearheaded public participation in Kiplokyi, Bomet Central, on the proposed establishment of a university satellite campus specializing in health sciences.
According to Tonui, the Commission for University Education (CUE) informed him that Bomet University College has the opportunity to set up a health sciences satellite campus in Bomet County. Following his request, the college agreed to establish the facility at Kiplokyi Girls High School.
“When I visited the CUE offices in Nairobi, I was told that Bomet University College could establish a satellite campus to offer health sciences courses. I proposed Kiplokyi as the site, and my request was approved,” said Tonui.
The public participation forum allowed residents to give their views on the conversion of Kiplokyi Girls High School into the university campus.
Kiplokyi Girls High School, where the satellite campus is to be established, is an old institution struggling with poor performance and dwindling enrollment. Currently, it has only 60 students.
“The school is on its knees. Its structures are dilapidated, it has a debt of three million shillings, and only sixty students remain. The Form Four candidates will even sit their exams at Kiplokyi Mixed Day Secondary School,” a board member lamented.
Residents welcomed the move, saying the new institution would spur development in the area.
Tonui encouraged locals to embrace the opportunity once the facility is operational.
“I urge you, the residents of Kiplokyi, to take advantage of this facility. It will transform this entire area – but you must be ready,” he said.
