A new sports initiative is cueing up opportunity for the youth of Narok Amalo Sub-County. The inaugural Chebila Pool Tournament, a grassroots competition spearheaded by young leader Nelly Chepkemoi, popularly known as Chebila, kicks off this Saturday at Mogoiwet Junction in Sogoo Ward.

The tournament, which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., is the first step in a larger circuit designed to scout and nurture local talent. Funded primarily from Chebila’s personal resources, the event aims to provide a constructive alternative to idleness and create a platform for young people to connect.

“This tournament is not just about pool,” Chebila stated. “It is about giving our youth a positive space to showcase their skills, network with one another, and share ideas that can uplift their lives and our communities.”

The competition is structured as a multi-stage event. It begins at the ward level, with six wards—Sogoo, Sagamian, Ilmotiok, Mara, Melelo, and Ololulunga—scheduled to participate. Sagamian Ward has already completed its qualifying round. The top players from each ward will then advance to a grand finale this December to compete for top honours and prizes.

While a nominal KSh 300 entry fee will assist with logistics, Chebila’s sponsorship covers the bulk of the operational costs, ensuring that winners receive attractive prizes and the event runs smoothly.

Organizers say the initiative also seeks to promote social cohesion and diversify sporting activities in a region traditionally dominated by football and athletics. By investing in talent at the grassroots level, the tournament hopes to pocket more than just points—it aims to help youth break into a new racket of opportunity.
