Schools Resume Final Stretch of Academic Year Across the Country
By Chemtai Kirui, Nairobi, Kenya,
Schools across the country reopened today for the third and final term of the 2025 academic calendar, a nine-week period that will culminate in national examinations.
Learners will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA), and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the government has retained strict measures to safeguard the credibility of the exams. These include the suspension of non-academic activities, mid-term breaks, and school prayer days.

The KJSEA, being administered for the first time, will account for 60 percent of learners’ placement scores, with 20 percent drawn from the KPSEA and another 20 percent from School-Based Assessments in Grades 7 and 8.
The ministry said it remains committed to ensuring a smooth academic calendar and preparing learners adequately for the examinations.
