Once a prestigious institution in Keiyo South, Simotwo High School now struggles with declining academic performance, poor discipline, and weak leadership, leaving its students vulnerable and underserved. The late-night protest raises urgent questions about who will safeguard their education, their safety, and their future.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner David Kosgei addressed the students at the county headquarters, listening to their grievances and acknowledging the urgent need to respond to their concerns. The students’ bold walk highlighted the depth of challenges facing the school and the frustration felt by its young learners.

Social media users and education stakeholders have pointed to weak leadership as a key factor in the school’s decline. “No institution rises above its leadership,” one commentator wrote, emphasizing the importance of accountability and direction in schools.

The contrast with a nearby girls’ school is striking. While the girls continue to excel academically with strong community support, the boys of Simotwo face uncertainty unless urgent intervention occurs.

This walkout is a wake-up call. Education authorities, parents, and community leaders must act swiftly to restore the school and ensure that these students receive the opportunities they deserve to thrive.
