Residents Unite to Repair Poor Road Network in Bomet East

Residents of Bomet East in Bomet County have taken matters into their own hands by repairing the dilapidated Segutek–Tumoiyoyat–Irwaga road after years of neglect.

The road, which serves as a key link for farmers transporting produce such as tea, vegetables, and milk, had become impassable due to potholes and erosion, especially during the rainy season.
Led by community member Felix Kiprop and former Merigi Ward MCA Zadock Kilel, the residents organized a joint effort to fill potholes and level sections of the road using locally available materials.

“We could no longer wait for promises that never come,” said Kiprop. “This road is our lifeline, especially for tea farmers who rely on it to deliver their produce to the factories.”
Kilel echoed the residents’ frustration, blaming local leaders for failing to respond to repeated pleas for road improvement. “It’s unfortunate that the people have to do what their elected leaders should have done long ago,” he said.

The residents expressed hope that their initiative will draw attention from the local leadership and spur long-term infrastructural development in the area.
