Rape and defilement remain serious concerns in Bomet County, particularly in the tea-growing regions. These crimes not only violate the dignity of victims but also threaten the safety and well-being of communities across the county.

“We cannot allow our mothers and children to be oppressed by criminals. Rape and defilement cases are on the rise in Bomet, especially in the tea estates,” said Murkomen.

Murkomen further urged members of the public to come forward and report any incidents or individuals violating children’s rights, emphasizing that community involvement is critical in the fight against such crimes.

Fortunately, Bomet is served by a strong judicial system and committed police services that continue to play a crucial role in tackling these issues. Local leaders have vowed to work hand-in-hand with security agencies to ensure that perpetrators who prey on women and children are swiftly brought to justice and removed from society.

Fraud is another emerging security challenge in the county. According to Murkomen, the government is addressing the issue through local administrative offices by sensitizing residents on the dangers of fraud and how to protect themselves from falling victim.

“We don’t have major security issues in Bomet. The biggest problem is that many people don’t know how to safeguard their personal information, and fraudsters take advantage of this to access their accounts,” he said.

He noted that SIM swapping and other forms of digital fraud are not unique to Bomet but are part of a broader national issue that the government is actively combating.

“There is no excuse for any criminal activity in this country. Lack of employment cannot justify crime. We are determined to ensure that anyone engaging in such acts is dealt with according to the law,” Murkomen added.

The county leadership remains optimistic that with continued public education, community vigilance, and strengthened law enforcement collaboration, Bomet can become a safer and more secure place for all.

He was speaking at Bomet County Commissioner’s office during his visit and an engagement with residents and security team on Jukwaa La Usalama forum.
