New Law to Boost Conservation Efforts in Baringo County

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has officially assented to the Conservancy Bill, paving way for conservancies in the region to access funding and support to enhance conservation and tourism initiatives.

 

According to the county boss, the new law will enable conservancies to receive much-needed resources to support environmental and wildlife conservation efforts across the county.

 

Speaking during the Annual General Meeting of the Baringo County Conservancy Association, Cheboi noted that Baringo is among few counties with formal regulations governing community conservancies and urged local communities to actively support these initiatives.

Deputy Governor Felix Maiyo highlighted the need for conservancies to benefit from carbon credits, given their role in environmental conservation. He called on international stakeholders to recognize and reward such efforts.

 

On his part, BCCA Chairperson Augustine Chepkurwok commended the county government for enacting the law, stating that it will significantly contribute to environmental preservation and generate revenue through tourism.

 

 

Currently, Baringo County has 16 registered conservancies spread across various sub-counties.
