Mystery as Body of Elderly Woman Found in River at Kesagetiet Village

By Robert Siele

Residents of Kesagetiet village in Seretut, Belgut, Kericho County, were left in shock after the body of a 70-year-old woman was discovered in a nearby river.

According to locals, the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear. Maureen Tembur, a resident of Kaplutiet village, said the incident has instilled fear in the community, as the true cause of death is yet to be established.

The body was reportedly found at Ainapkoi stream with the woman’s clothes still intact, deepening the mystery. Joel Cheruiyot, another resident, alleged that the tragedy may be linked to increased consumption of illicit brews in the area.

Reports suggest the deceased had been seen at a local drinking joint shortly before her death. Villagers accused a notorious brewer of turning the community into a hub for illicit alcohol, a menace they say has ruined lives and stalled development.

They further blamed authorities for neglecting their duties, allowing the vice to thrive unchecked. Residents have now appealed to the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene and address the rising cases of illicit brews in the region.

The body has since been moved to Lazarus Funeral Home as police launch investigations into the matter.
