Nakuru County today played host to a high-level Jukwaa la Usalama forum led by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. The meeting brought together top security officials, including police commanders, chiefs, and county administrators, to address the growing concerns over insecurity and drug abuse in the region.

CS Murkomen Speaking to the press after the session.

Speaking to the press after the session, CS Murkomen expressed grave concern that Nakuru is among the leading counties in the distribution and sale of illegal drugs. He warned that the government will not relent in its efforts to dismantle the networks behind the trade, which he said is destroying lives, ruining the future of the youth, and tearing apart families. He revealed that immediate action will be taken against those found trafficking, selling, or supplying drugs, following the agreements reached with security officers and local administrators.

Turning to the issue of gang-related crime, Murkomen commended the police for their recent successes in reducing the number of active gangs operating in the county. He noted that there is a direct link between the proliferation of drugs and the rise of criminal gangs, adding that once the fight against illegal drugs is won, gang activity will decline sharply.

Governor, Susan Kihika Speaking During the Forum

Governor Susan Kihika, who attended the forum, thanked the CS for prioritizing Nakuru’s security concerns. She voiced her confidence that the measures announced would help restore safety and peace, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement in exposing criminals and protecting their communities.

Murkomen concluded by assuring the public that the government’s security apparatus will remain vigilant and proactive, stressing that safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Kenyans is a top priority.
