Konoin MP Yegon Urges Government to Elevate Konoin TTI to National Polytechnic Status

Konoin Member of Parliament Brighton Yegon has appealed to the national government to upgrade Konoin Technical Training Institute (KOTTI) to a national polytechnic, citing its growing impact on youth empowerment and regional development.
Addressing graduates during the institution’s second graduation ceremony, Yegon underscored the critical role of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) in supporting infrastructure and learning facilities in technical institutions.
He noted that this year’s graduation theme, Technology, Innovation, Skills and Excellence for Sustainable Development, captures the aspirations of the Konoin community and the country at large.
“This theme reflects exactly what our community needs for the future, especially our youth. That is why we have consistently supported Konoin TTI, and we are requesting the Ministry of Education to uplift it to national polytechnic status,” Yegon said.
On his part, Dr. Frank Muguna, Director of Policy and Implementation Compliance in the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), commended the role of technical institutions in shaping the country’s skilled workforce.
“Technical institutions are not merely alternatives; they are pathways to a greater future. We must embrace them because they continue to open vast opportunities for our youth,” Dr. Muguna stated.
He further encouraged technical institutions to offer formal certification to residents who possess unique, practical skills gained outside formal training, saying this would help promote inclusivity and empower disadvantaged groups.
