Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has called on opposition leaders to embrace unity and focus on development to move the country forward.

Kingi criticized some opposition leaders for spreading hatred among citizens, warning that tribalism offers no benefits.

“One term will not bring universal health care, one term is not the answer to affordable housing,” he added.

He emphasized that both government and opposition leaders require a peaceful environment to effectively lead.

“For you to be president you need a country to lead which is stable and peaceful. Kenya is for us all and tribalism should be fought.”

He further noted that the president is committed and determined to steer the nation in the right direction.

Kericho County MP Beatrice Kemei criticized ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for what she described as unnecessary remarks regarding the broad-based government.

“I want to tell Sifuna that those one term remarks you have been making are your personal opinions, not the position of ODM,” said Kemei.

She stressed that ODM, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, should prioritize its collaboration with the president.

“Raila Odinga is the leader of ODM and he has said he supports the president with broad-based gorvenment.” She added.

Former Cabinet Secretary for Gender Aisha Jumwa urged the former prime minister to rein in his party members to prevent divisive statements that undermine unity in government.

“I want to ask the former prime minister to ask his members to mind their statements and we are together in this government.” Said Aisha.

She also called on cabinet secretaries to be cautious with their remarks, ensuring they represent the presidency appropriately and respect the electorate.

“Be keen when speaking and if there is an issue handle within and address Kenyas appropriately.” She said.

Kericho Governor Dr. Erick Mutai expressed concern over what he termed as baseless and divisive politics propagated by the opposition, urging an end to such rhetoric.

The leaders made these remarks during a fundraiser for the construction of a business complex for the Seventh-day Adventist Church South Rift Valley Field. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and Senators Eddy Oketch (Migori) and Hillary Sigei (Bomet), among others.
