Kihika Claps Back at Gachagua Over Nakuru Politics, Husband’s Involvement

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has sharply responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his recent remarks touching on Nakuru County politics and the role of businessman Sam Mburu—Kihika’s husband.

Gachagua, in a recent address, vowed to mobilize his supporters to vote Kihika out in the 2027 general elections, branding her a “one-term governor.” He further alleged that Mburu was engaging directly with the national government while Kihika focused solely on county affairs.
The comments have stirred political tension, especially after some of Gachagua’s supporters were reportedly blocked from accessing Nakuru Town through Subukia—a move that has raised concerns among local leaders.
In a strong rebuttal, Governor Kihika dismissed Gachagua’s sentiments, urging him to steer clear of tribal and divisive politics.
“Unikome!” she declared during a public event. “This is a cosmopolitan county known for peace and unity. We will not entertain politics of division.”

Kihika was addressing the public at Nyayo Gardens during the official launch of the SHA and TAIFA Care registration and awareness campaign. She was accompanied by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who also weighed in on the issue.
Duale criticized Gachagua for dragging Kihika’s husband into political disputes, stating:
“Wachana mwanabiashara, kujia Susan.” (Leave the businessman alone; come for Susan.”)

He emphasized the importance of respectful political competition and cautioned against personal attacks targeting leaders’ families.
The exchange comes amid growing political realignments in the Rift Valley as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
