Kenya Kwanza Government Powers Up Communities with Electricity

The Kenya Kwanza government has made significant strides in connecting households to electricity, with a total of 1,001,050 households connected since 2022. This milestone was highlighted by Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira during a recent event at Kirundi Village, Tharaka Constituency.

A Step Towards 100% Connectivity
Speaking alongside Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, PS Wachira emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving 100% electricity connectivity by 2030. “We are on course to realize our vision of universal electricity access,” he said.

 

Bringing Electricity to Rural Areas
CS Wandayi flagged off electrification materials for 408 households in the area, which is being carried out by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC). He acknowledged that Tharaka-Nithi County still experiences low levels of connectivity but expressed his determination to improve the numbers.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including REREC CEO Dr. Rose Mkalama, Area MP George Gitonga, and Blue Economy PS Betsy Muthoni. Together, they underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing electricity access across the country.
