HX5 FC Crowned Champions as Vivo Energy Kenya Launches a First-of-Its-Kind Wellness Experience for Mechanics and Their Families
Over 100 mechanics and their families gathered in Nairobi for a vibrant and action-packed Shell Lubricants Mechanics Sports and Wellness Day—an inaugural event by Vivo Energy Kenya that blended competition, entertainment, and community bonding into an unforgettable celebration.

The event marked a new milestone in the company’s commitment to empowering the mechanics who drive its lubricants ecosystem. Throughout the day, participants competed across football, darts, pool, and innovative obstacle races, showcasing passion, talent, and unity.
Darts Masterclass
The darts arena saw 10 skilled competitors battle through demanding rounds of 501 and 301 games. Simon Maina Nderitu delivered the standout performance of the tournament, posting a record 78 points and dominating his matches with consistent precision. Emmanuel Baraza and Beckham Ashihuma kept the competition intense as enthusiastic spectators cheered them on.
Pool Table Brilliance
The 8-ball pool contest attracted 14 players in a strategic showdown filled with sharp shots and clever positioning. John Mbugua and Philemon Otiti emerged as joint winners after captivating performances. For Otiti, the triumph was even more special as his family watched him shine—a moment that captured the essence of the celebrations.

Football Drama & Championship Glory
The football tournament provided the day’s most electrifying action. Five teams—HX7 FC, HX3 FC, HX5 FC, Ultra FC, and Vivo FC—battled for dominance in fast-paced matches.
HX7 opened strongly with a 3–1 win over Ultra, while HX5 edged HX3 with a narrow 1–0 victory. The standout moment belonged to 31-year-old striker John Mwaura, who netted five remarkable goals against HX3. His incredible display included a header, a smart chip, a combination finish, a stylish flick, and a composed solo run past the keeper—earning him the Golden Boot.

HX5 powered through the semis with a commanding win over HX7 and proceeded to face Vivo FC in the final. Despite early pressure from Vivo, HX5 took control in the second half. Goals from Mohamed Tafauti, Bernard Ogutu, and Antony Kamuna sealed a confident 3–0 victory, crowning HX5 FC as champions. Tafauti’s standout performances throughout the tournament earned him MVP honours.
Obstacle Course Excitement
Four teams—Ultra, HX7, HX5, and HX3—took on creative obstacle races featuring tyre runs, sack races, potato relays, Shell product stacking, and water-sponge challenges. Ramco Kinana steered the Vivo team to the fastest finish, posting an impressive 03:08:11. Ultra claimed second place, followed by HX3 in third.

Wellness, Family, and Community at the Core
Beyond the competition arenas, the event featured free health screenings, interactive wellness sessions, and engaging family activities. Mechanics and their loved ones enjoyed a relaxing and festive environment designed to promote holistic wellbeing.
The inaugural Shell Mechanics Sports and Wellness Day represents a major step in Vivo Energy Kenya’s drive to build long-term value with mechanics—recognizing them as an integral part of the wider Shell Lubricants family.
