Elgeyo Marakwet Launches Sanitation Drive to Curb Disease Outbreaks
By Andrew Kimetto,
In a renewed push to boost public health and prevent disease outbreaks, Elgeyo Marakwet County has rolled out a major sanitation campaign targeting traders in major towns.
The Health and Sanitation Department is leading the drive, focusing on civic education for hotel operators and market vendors on the importance of maintaining hygiene standards.
While addressing traders at Iten Fresh Produce Market, Chief Officer Caroline Magut emphasized that the county is taking proactive steps despite having no current cases of communicable diseases.

“We are doing this as a preventive measure. Traders must uphold hygiene standards to protect the community,” she said.
However, the Iten Business Community chairperson, Mathew Kurui, called on the county to improve sanitation infrastructure, noting that the current state of public facilities is wanting.
