Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on the Kenyan youth to remain hopeful and focused despite the wave of negativity often spread by some leaders and influencers on social media.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inaugural graduation ceremony of Murang’a Technical Training Institute in Maragua Constituency, Murang’a County, the Deputy President emphasized that young people are the backbone of Kenya’s future and should not be discouraged.
“It is wrong to discourage our youth. Social media should not be a platform to depress or demoralize them. Instead, it must be used to inspire, to create hope and to remind young people of their potential,” he said.
Kindiki noted that the government is working to provide a stable environment for job creation and entrepreneurship so that young people can translate their talents and skills into income-generating opportunities.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education, terming it as one of the most critical investments Kenya can make for its future.
“Government takes education seriously, that’s why we are spending over 30 percent of Kenya’s resources in funding education,” the Deputy President explained.
“For a long time, we have been allocating about 650 billion shillings per year. This year alone, we are releasing 702 billion shillings for funding all schools, from primary to university. That is not a small investment. Out of 22 ministries, education takes the single largest share of the budget that’s 30 percent.”
He pointed out that these funds go directly into paying teachers, running schools, and improving learning facilities across the country, underscoring that the government’s top priority is ensuring every child has access to quality education.
The Deputy President also urged political leaders and social influencers to use their platforms responsibly.
“We must not create hopelessness in our young people. We must value them, believe in them, and deliberately create opportunities for them. Kenya’s future depends on how much we support and uplift our youth today,” Kindiki said.
The graduation marked a significant milestone for Murang’a Technical Training Institute, with hundreds of graduates entering the job market equipped with skills for entrepreneurship and employment.
