Chepalungu Mp Victor Koech has called on the government to expedite the gazettement of Chepalungu and parts of Sotik as hardship areas.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with principals from Chepalungu constituency at Moi Siongiroi Girls High School in Chepalungu, the MP announced that the gazettement is currently underway, calling on the responsible authorities to expedite the process.

He raised concern over the harsh working conditions faced by government employees, particularly teachers in the said areas. He lamented that teachers in Chepalungu are not receiving hardship allowances, despite their counterparts in neighboring counties benefiting from the same.

“Teachers in Chepalungu continue to suffer due to difficult conditions and poor working environment. It is unfair that they are excluded from hardship allowances while teachers from adjacent counties receive them,” he said.

Koech also urged the ministry of education to simplify the process of school registration, pointing out that rural schools face more obstacles compared to those in urban areas.

His sentiments were echoed by Bomet KNUT Executive Secretary Desmond Langat and KUPPET Executive Secretary Paul Kimetto, who criticized the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for neglecting issues affecting teachers in Chepalungu.

“The TSC has not taken matters in Chepalungu seriously. Teachers here deserve better support and recognition,” Langat stated.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing concerns about equity in educational support and the need for targeted government interventions in rural constituencies like Chepalungu
