Boost for Tea Farmers: Nakuru Launches Sh33M Road Upgrade in Tea-Growing Wards
By Sylvester Rono,
Nakuru County has officially handed over sites for the improvement of key access roads in tea-growing areas, aiming to ease the transport of produce to factories and markets.
The Sh33 million project—funded through tea cess—targets 27.3 km of roads in Tinet, Kiptagich, and Amalo Wards.
Deputy Governor David Kones, who led the exercise, said the roads will undergo grading, murraming, compaction, and culvert installation.
In Amalo Ward, works will cover Kapsimba–Director Road (2 km) and Kapmathayo- Kaplamoi tea zone road (7 km).
Kiptagich Ward roads include Director–Lelpanga–Konoin Road (6 km) and Saptet–KTDA–Chepkulo Road (2.5 km). Tinet Ward projects include Kapket–Chepkulo Road (8 km) and Sachangwan–Kipngororoch Road (1.8 km).
The tea cess plays a key role in strengthening infrastructure in farming areas—ensuring better access, efficient transport, and higher produce quality.
Present at the launch were Agriculture CECM Leonard Bor, Director of Political Affairs Joseph Kibore, area MCAs, county staff, and officials from Olenguruone KTDA factory.
