Bomet KNUT Secretary: Only a Teacher Should Lead TSC
By Albert Tonui
Bomet KNUT Executive Secretary Desmond Langat is calling on the government to appoint a teacher as the next CEO of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), insisting that only a teacher can effectively champion the interests of educators.
Langat noted that, unlike other commissions—such as IPOA and JSC, which are led by professionals from within their respective sectors—TSC stands out for having a non-teacher at its helm.
“It’s only TSC that has a CEO who is not a professional in the teaching field. We need a teacher this time to lead the commission,” he said.
He also urged the government not to scrap hardship areas, but instead expand the list to include more regions in Bomet, such as Kipreres, Lelaitich, and parts of Mulot, saying teachers in those areas deserve hardship allowances.
In addition, Langat appealed for the prioritization of older unemployed teachers in hiring, warning that many risk reaching retirement age before getting employed.
