Bomet East MP Decries Rising Cases of Defilement, Calls for Swift Justice

Bomet East Member of Parliament Richard Yegon has raised concern over the alarming increase in defilement cases in the region, calling for urgent intervention.
Speaking during a visit to Kugunoi Comprehensive School in Longisa, the legislator condemned the growing trend of sexual abuse against minors, terming it “painful and unacceptable.”

“It’s heartbreaking to witness elderly men engaging in sexual relations with minors. We urge the government and the justice system to fast-track the prosecution of such offenders and deny them bail to ensure justice for the victims,” said Yegon during an interview with Kass Digital.
Yegon further appealed to residents to report any form of gender-based violence to the relevant authorities, emphasizing the community’s role in curbing the vice.
The MP was touring various development projects across the constituency, including the commissioning of newly constructed classrooms.
He noted significant progress in education access due to improved school infrastructure.
“Some schools previously had no learners at all. But after renovations and community engagement, we now have schools with more than 300 students,” Yegon stated.
However, he acknowledged existing gaps, particularly in science infrastructure.
“I’m aware that many schools lack laboratories, which are essential learning facilities. We are working tirelessly to address this and ensure our children receive the quality education they deserve,” he added.
