Xbox Game Camp is officially returning to Africa for its third year, reaffirming its commitment to supporting and uplifting game developers across the continent. Announced today via Xbox Wire, the program continues in partnership with ID@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program (DAP), offering a 12-week structured experience to pre-selected professional game studios.
Participants will progress from initial game ideas to building a working prototype or vertical slice, all while receiving expert mentorship from Team Xbox. Since its launch, Xbox Game Camp Africa has welcomed over 1,900 new-to-industry game creators, helping nurture talent and drive innovation.
One standout success story is Kenyan studio Kunta Content. Their debut game, Hiru, was developed through the first two Game Camps. The recently released trailer highlights the game’s rich environments and storytelling, vividly capturing the beauty of African landscapes—from the Masai Mara to the Congo and the desert.
Dean Gichukie, CEO and Game Producer at Kunta Content, expressed excitement about sharing Hiru’s world, emphasizing how Xbox’s support, beginning with Xbox Game Camp, helped bring their vision to life.
The 2023 Xbox Game Camp Africa officially kicks off on December 4 in Cape Town, South Africa, in collaboration with Africa Games Week, a major event celebrating gaming on the continent.
