The meeting was held at the Ministry headquarters in Nairobi and highlighted the need to build partnerships to support the implementation of the MCF-ICLIP which supports an iconic 10-year programme aimed at restoring the Mau Forest ecosystem and improving livelihoods of the residents.

MCF-ICLIP has identified four priority areas in the Mau Forest Complex, including Molo, Njoro, Kuresoi North, and Kuresoi South. These areas are strategic to Kenya’s water towers and biodiversity. They also support thousands of people who depend on the Mau Forest Complex for their livelihoods.

Following the meeting, Ms. Basiye noted Safaricom’s commitment to supporting sustainability, climate resilience and, inclusive initiatives.

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry is engaging public and private sector stakeholders, civil society, and development partners to support the programme. The involvement of corporate stakeholders such as Safaricom, indicates an emerging commitment and interest from the private sector towards climate action and sustainable resource use.
