Nakuru County business operators are set to benefit from government-led development initiatives, including the much-anticipated expansion of the Rironi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha–Nakuru Summit Road, slated to commence in September.

This was revealed during a Boresha Biashara conversation between the Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Lee Kinyanjui, and local business stakeholders. The forum, aimed at strengthening dialogue between government and the private sector, provided an opportunity for entrepreneurs to share their challenges and explore available support programs.

CS Kinyanjui urged traders to remain focused and seize opportunities arising from the new developments to grow and diversify their enterprises. He noted that infrastructure upgrades will not only ease transportation but also expand market access and attract more investment to the region.

He further highlighted some of the agencies under the Ministry of Trade that play a significant role in supporting businesses, such as the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), which help enterprises cope with operational challenges and improve product quality.

During the session, business operators raised several concerns affecting their operations, including corruption, persistent water shortages due to the stalled Itare Dam project, and insufficient street lighting in commercial zones.

The CS assured them that the government remains committed to addressing these issues, stressing that creating an enabling environment for businesses is a key driver of economic growth in Nakuru County.
