Equity Bank Crowned Best Regional Bank in East Africa at the African Banker Awards 2025

Equity Bank has been named Best Regional Bank in East Africa at the African Banker Awards 2025, held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, reaffirming its leadership in inclusive and transformative banking.
The award recognizes Equity’s impact in advancing financial inclusion, community empowerment, and socio-economic growth across the region. With a strong footprint in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Bank continues to bridge financial gaps and foster regional integration.
“This award affirms our strategic commitment to creating shared prosperity for all,” said Dr. Silpah Owich, Head of Women and Youth Banking at Equity Bank Kenya, who received the award on behalf of the Bank.
Presented by Zemedeneh Negatu, Chairman of the Washington, DC-based Fairfax Africa Fund, LLC, the award celebrates Equity’s work in supporting trade, agriculture, MSMEs, and renewable energy. Notably, the Bank has driven regional trade through initiatives like the Equity-led Trade Mission to the DRC, connecting businesses across East and Central Africa.
Equity’s inclusive finance model continues to empower millions, especially women and youth, through access to capital, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship support, fueling transformation from the ground up.
