A man tragically lost his life this morning at 10 a.m. in Chepngaina village, Bomet County, after accidentally coming into contact with live electric wires while cutting tree branches on a tree he was planning to cut down.
The deceased was reportedly unaware that the branches he was cutting were touching live power lines.
Shocked residents have called on Kenya Power to take proactive measures, such as trimming trees or branches that encroach on power lines, to prevent such fatal accidents in the future.
Speaking to Kass Media Group, Lawyer Kenneth Ngetich has echoed the community’s concerns, urging Kenya Power to enhance public awareness about the risks associated with working near power lines.
“Kenya Power should sensitize the public on the dangers of cutting trees or branches close to live power lines,” said Ngetich. “Additionally, safety measures like insulating power lines should be implemented to reduce such incidents.”
The body of the deceased was taken to Longisa Morgue as investigations into the incident continue.
