Day 3 of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary games marked major wins for Kenya in the games centred on deepening of the regional integration agenda.
The home-ground authority, game resilience and spirited fortitude to raise the flag was eminent when the Kenya men’s 4 by 100 metres relay race kicked off, as Kenya retained the persistent sprint to excellence, raising the trophy in the highly competitive race.
Reeling from a major win against Uganda in the opener men volleyball match, the Kenyan men tag of war team, the women 100 metres sprint team and the 4 by 100 metres men relay race team put a remarkable performance that put the tempo of the ongoing games at a fever pitch.
Kenya’s athletic prowess was stamped on Monday as team Kenya claimed the coveted 4 by 100 metres relay title at the ongoing East African Community (EAC) Interparliamentary Games at the Mbaraki Sports Complex in Mombasa County.
The Kenyan men’s relay team captained by overall Bunge Sports Club Chairperson Hon. Vincent Kawaya (Mwala), put up a spirited run for the coveted title, beating the odds of the unpredictable Mombasa County downpour that had drenched the running track, and technically evacuated the cheering squads off periphery spaces.
Several members of the winning Kenyan team said the team-spirit, dedicated training and genuine dedication to team victory carried the day.
The Kenyan victory was followed by a remarkable excitement coloured in song and dance, reminiscent of earlier victories by the Kenyan teams.
In the women 100 metres race, Busia County MP Hon. Catherine Omanyo, emerged second in the 100 metres women race.
The Busia County MP attributed her success to the resilience of the Kenyan team, the tacticians, trainers and upbeat cheating spirit of the Kenyan teams.
The climax of the day was theme tug-of-war face off, against Uganda where the fortitude of the team and the glue of the shared muscle of dedication tilted the scales in Kenya’s favour to a remarkable salute of respect, coloured in song and dance.
