Floods threaten initiates (torusiek), cause havoc in Transmara.

Heavy rains that have caused floods in a number of places in Transmara, Narok County, have caused a lot of havoc.
Several roads and crops have been seriously destroyed, making residents incur a lot of losses.
According to Joel Arap Rotich, a resident from Ololmasani, the floods have completely destroyed a good number of roads, making them impassable.
He requests the authorities to immediately bring a solution by doing road repairs, especially installing culverts and murram where appropriate.
”These floods have adversely destroyed our roads. It is now impossible to move from one place to another because culverts and murram have been swept away by too much rain. The national and county governments should consider this a priority to remedy the awkward situation we are in”. Rotich said.
Ololmasani location chief Nicholas Mutai calls for vigilance to people living near water bodies, such as dams and rivers, to avoid drowning and other losses.
He asks parents and guardians of the initiates who live in traditional makeshifts called ‘mencho’ to be extra careful in order to evade dangers caused by floods in those houses mostly built in bushes and forests.
”I request all the people living downstream and this near dams to move to safer grounds in order to avoid dangers associated with floods. Take care of initiates (torsuiek) who are in those houses, especially in lowlands, so as to avoid any loss by this heavy rain”. Said Mutai.
The floods have also swept a lot of food crops in many farms, a situation that may cause a serious food shortage in the future.
