Limuru incident was targeted at me —Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says the Limuru incident that happened last week was meant to assassinate him over his political differences with President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview on a TV station, Mr. Gachagua wondered why the crowd of over 2000 people had no even a single police officer in uniform and that even the incident, no one was arrested or held responsible over the what happened.

The former deputy president seems to have decided to take the war to his former boss President Ruto’s door, saying he is not a man to be trusted: “The only regret I have is that I dealt with Ruto as a Christian. I trusted him; I believed in him. Whatever he told me, I took it as the truth and acted blindly, but I am now getting to know why Uhuru broke rank with him,” Gachagua says.

Mr Gachagua who had broken ranks with Mr Kenyatta and led a team of Mt Kenya legislatures to support Dr Ruto, was nominated as the running mate and went ahead to deliver the region’s 87 percent of area votes to the winning side.

But after Gachagua served Dr Ruto as deputy president for two years, he was impeached on October 17, 2024, and replaced with Prof Kithure Kindiki.
